Assam Flood Situation Severe as Toll Hits 75; Relief Measures Expanded

Severe torrential monsoon rains and overflowing river basins have exacerbated the flood crisis in Assam, pushing the official death toll to 75 as emergency rescue efforts continue across affected districts. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced an upgraded financial relief package of ₹9 lakh for each of the families of the deceased while reviewing state disaster response operations. Thousands of residents have been displaced into government-run relief camps following widespread inundation that disrupted road connectivity, agriculture, and essential supply chains across central and upper Assam. Prime Minister Narendra Modi confirmed that central and state disaster response forces are coordinating joint operations to deploy boat rescues, supply essential food packages, and restore drinking water availability in inundated areas. Authorities continue to maintain high alert as weather forecasts indicate continued rainfall across several northeastern states in the coming days.
